In the choral work Backward Singing Performance, Pernice has composed and rewritten well-known pop songs backward. In connection with the opening of the new Gammel Strand, the babbling compositions were performed by a vocal ensemble, after which a sound recording of their live performance was played backward. In doing so, the song transitions from complete unrecognizability to approaching the original starting point, with moments of identification. In a playful approach, Eau Pernice works with language as a material that can be shaped and reshaped and a space where new meanings can be created and discovered. After the performance, the backward-backward documentation of the performance was exhibited as a sound piece in the Montana Room.
